Sep. 8th, 2008 09:41 amI had a rather nice weekend, thanks for asking.
On Friday night I played some Texas Hold 'em Poker with my friend James and a few of his other friends. Lost $15, but had a thoroughly good time. Got to play a few games, drink some beer and scotch, smoke a cigar and eat delicious nachos. Good times indeed.
Did a bit of shopping on Saturday, for Father's Day gifts and general odds and ends. Bought my Dad a Beer book, fittingly entitled BEER, with photos and writeups of 500 different beers from around the world recommended by some beer-know-it-all chap. We also bought a book of Australian panoramic photography for Tina's Dad. I managed to pick up a couple of DVDs and CDs as well - DVDs were Dawn of the Dead and Vertigo, and CDs were Here Are the Sonics!!! by The Sonics and Money Jungle by Duke Ellington. Those are two of my absolute favourite albums (which both featured in that list I posted a while back), so I was very chuffed to pick them up. Quite cheaply, too.
EDIT - Of course, we also voted on Saturday. Rather surprised and displeased by the result thus far. It's all a bit sad, really.
Sunday we caught up with both sets of parents. Gifts were happily received by fathers, and much chillaxing was done. Ended up talking to Mum for ages about real estate. Tina and I are starting to get awfully keen on this whole crazy home ownership thing. Waiting for your deposit money to sufficiently accumilate is torture.
And last night we saw 10 Items or Less, a very sweet, Lost in Translation-esque, "people having conversations" flick, in which a fading celebrity (Morgan Freeman) and a checkout operator (Paz Vega) meet up when the former is researching for a new role. The spend an afternoon together and enrich one another's lives, more or less. A simple, but quite touching little pic. I have to admit I've completely forgotten who it was that recommended it to me. So whoever it was, cheers!
