- You Follow Me by Nina Nastasia and Jim White (he's the drummer for The Dirty Three) is a really, really lovely album. Great female vocals that alternate between delicate and powerful, accompanied by sparse acoustic guitar and White's brilliant, slightly improv-ey percussion. It's interesting to hear a collaboration where the drummer plays such a vital role that he's actually co-credited, rather than just listed as a contributer. I shall be writing a review about that one sometime very soon.
- Liars new album, called Liars, is kind of lame for being a self-titled album that isn't a debut, but is awesome for most other reasons. I'm impressed with how many times this band can reinvent themselves - this time they're going for a funky, retro style, which sounds totally different to the tribal rhythms of Drum's Not Dead.
- In the area of stuff that isn't so recent, I've been thrashing Guided By Voices' classic Bee Thousand recently. I love this album a lot - Robert Pollard is an amazing songwriter, and his ability to compress fantastic ideas into 2 minute rock songs is impressive. The album is twenty tracks of short-and-sweet, lo-fi gems. Anyone who considers themselves a fan of 90s indie-rock should probably check it out.
There are other things I could write about, but this shall do for now. I'll probably be posting another review really soon.
