Pitchfork like the new Hold Steady album. A lot.
I've had a listen to it, and I'm inclined to agree with them. It's very good stuff. I don't think I'm quite freaking out over it the way they are, but I've only heard it once. It's definitely on my to-buy list, based on that first listen.
The band has a "Listening Party" on their website, where you can listen to the entire album in streaming audio for free. This is awesome. I think all bands should do this. I think it's only going to be there for a limited time though, so if you're interested you should check it out soon. It's linked to in the Pitchfork news section. No idea how much longer it'll be online for.
On a separate note, the new Beck album, called The Information, is out today. I'll have to pick that up sometime soon. I haven't heard anything except the single "Nausea" yet, but I've heard it's pretty good. Supposedly better than Guero (which is admittedly one of Beck's weakest efforts). Reports indicate that he actually started working on it before Guero, but it took this long to finish up. It's also the third time Beck is being produced by Nigel Godrich (who produced Mutations and Sea Change).
Finally, Citrus by Asobi Seksu is incredible. I just got it in the mail (from ebay) the other day, and I can't stop listening. This is quite simply one of the best shoegazer records I have ever heard.
Music. Woo.
