Jun. 24th, 2006 11:33 amSo, Helen tagged me to do that "7 Songs I'm Digging" thing. So here they are:
1. Nathan Fake: "Stops" A nice, ambient bloops 'n' bleeps track which sounds kind of like a cross between Boards of Canada and Four Tet.
2. The Pipettes: "We Are the Pipettes" I mentioned this one a few posts ago. Pretty straightforward 60s girl-group pop, but oh so addictive.
3. Beirut: "The Canals of Our City" My favourite track off Gulag Orkestar (so far). Probably the album's best showcase of Zach Condon's lovely vocals and pretty, uke-driven melodies. Very sentimentalist stuff.
4. Built to Spill: "Conventional Wisdom" A lengthy indie-pop/rock track with a really pleasant, chilled out, math-rock-ish guitar interlude.
5. Deerhoof: "Siriustar" I'm still thrashing The Runners Four, which is now easily my favourite album from 05. This track is just strange and quirky and wonderful. I can't really begin to properly describe it.
6. Tokyo Jihen: "Himitsu" Awesome Japanese group with kind of a big band sound and one of the sassiest lead vocalists ever.
7. Sunset Rubdown: "Stadiums and Shrines II" Spencer Krug is the guy who does the lead vocals on Wolf Parade's "I'll Believe in Anything", so if you've heard that, you'll know how good he is at spine-tingling, intensely emotional vocals. This is his lo-fi/psych side project, and it's really great.
I will be playing all of these on RFT this year. I've got quite a nifty little playlist in development :)
Hope that was educational.
